Horses that were found to have played a major part in the life of a woman who was getting divorced have been given a £50,000-a-year maintenance grant in their owner’s divorce.
The grant, which forms part of a £1.5m divorce package, is to go towards the upkeep of the animals. The Family Court heard that the divorcing couple had no children and that the horses had become almost a substitute for the wife.
Mr Justice Potter upheld the ruling of the original district judge and said that as both agreed that the wife’s eventing was a major feature of their life, it would be unfair for the husband to ask her to give that up while he continued to be able to provide for her.
