Extra protection for private tenants

Private tenants would be given an “extra layer of protection” under government plans, Lender Repossession of Residential Property: Protection of Tenants.

Where private landlords are repossessed, the tenants are evicted with little or no notice.

Housing minister John Healy has launched plans to give tenants in this situation two months notice, and is calling on lenders to use alternatives to repossession, such as appointing receivers of rent.
