Re P (children) (adoption: parental consent) [2008] EWCA Civ 535, [2008] All ER (D) 265 (May)

 A judge considering dispensing with parental consent to adoption must, under s 1 of the Adoption and Children Act 2002, to focus on the child’s welfare “throughout his life”, to emphasise that adoption, unlike other forms of order, is something with lifelong implications.
