Nottingham Law School has applied to become an alternative business structure (ABS). The school, part of Nottingham Trent University, believes it is the first university to apply for ABS status, and would use the licence for its Legal Advice Centre. The Centre acts as a law firm and took on more than 180 pro bono cases in the last year.
Nick Johnson, centre director, says: “Students at all levels of the law school will be able to gain experience of professional practice in the same way that medical students currently do at teaching hospitals.”
