City firm expands appoints new real estate partner

City law firm Fladgate has bolstered its real estate and private capital advisory capabilities with the appointment of Simon Chadowitz as partner.

Simon joins Fladgate from Mishcon de Reya, where he has spent the past 18 years specialising in high-value commercial and residential property investments, large-scale mixed-use developments, hotels, shopping centres, private members’ clubs, restaurants and bars.

He is an award-winning property lawyer, whose broad client list includes quoted corporates, established property companies, ultra-high net worth individuals and family offices from around the world.

In his new role, Simon will help Fladgate to expand its existing expertise in advising clients on all aspects of their real estate developments and investments.

Commenting on his appointment, Simon said: ‘In an ever-changing world, private capital clients consistently demand the highest levels of service and support from the best advisors who are both skilled and experienced in managing legal and commercial risk across a broad range of sectors, disciplines and territories.

‘To that end, I am excited to be joining Fladgate’s well-respected and fast-growing team as it continues to refine its advisory offering to private clients and cement its position as one of the UK’s leading real estate and private capital-focused legal practices. I am equally excited to work alongside Walgate to explore potential synergies and opportunities for enhanced client services that can be provided by its multi-family office platform.’

Comparators remain the fault line of discrimination law. In this week's NLJ, Anjali Malik, partner at Bellevue Law, and Mukhtiar Singh, barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, review a bumper year of appellate guidance clarifying how tribunals should approach ‘actual’ and ‘evidential’ comparators. A new six-stage framework stresses a simple starting point: identify the treatment first
In cross-border divorces, domicile can decide everything. In NLJ this week, Jennifer Headon, legal director and head of international family, Isobel Inkley, solicitor, and Fiona Collins, trainee solicitor, all at Birketts LLP, unpack a Court of Appeal ruling that re-centres nuance in jurisdiction disputes. The court held that once a domicile of choice is established, the burden lies on the party asserting its loss
Early determination is no longer a novelty in arbitration. In NLJ this week, Gustavo Moser, arbitration specialist lawyer at Lexis+, charts the global embrace of summary disposal powers, now embedded in the Arbitration Act 1996 and mirrored worldwide. Tribunals may swiftly dismiss claims with ‘no real prospect of succeeding’, but only if fairness is preserved
The Ministry of Justice is once again in the dock as access to justice continues to deteriorate. NLJ consultant editor David Greene warns in this week's issue that neither public legal aid nor private litigation funding looks set for a revival in 2026
