World cup & EURO broadcasts should be free

Broadcasts of the World Cup and EURO football championships are of such importance to society that they should be broadcast free to members of the public, the European Court of Justice has ruled. It found that the UK and Belgium were correct in concluding that exclusive broadcasts would deprive the public of the possibility of following them free on television, and that any effects on the free movement and property rights of FIFA and UEFA, and alleged distortions of competition, were not excessive (Fifa v European Commission C-204/11 P).
