Gateley Legal—Jack Kelly

Gateley Legal expands Midlands residential development team

Gateley Legal has strengthened its specialist residential development team in the Midlands with the appointment of new partner, Jack Kelly.

Kelly joins Gateley Legal’s Birmingham office, bringing more than 12 years’ experience to the team following previous roles with Shakespeare Martineau and Gowling WLG.

He has spent his career acting for housebuilders, promoters and landowners on all aspects of residential development. His expertise covers both immediate land acquisition and strategic land development, advising on option agreements, conditional and unconditional contracts, promotion agreements, hybrid agreements, collaboration agreements, overage agreements and disposals to registered providers.

Kelly will work closely alongside the Birmingham and Nottingham specialist residential development teams to bolster Gateley Legal’s offering in the Midlands. This includes recent Birmingham-based partner hires, Natalie Edwards and Simon Robinson, as well as newly promoted Nottingham partner, Lauren Jeffrey.

Commenting on his appointment, Kelly said: “I’m excited to be joining Gateley Legal, which has a formidable reputation in the industry – acting for some of the biggest housebuilders and promoters, while attracting outstanding talent. As a result, its specialist residential development team is working on some of the most notable schemes across the Midlands, as well as nationally. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in this, supporting both the team and our clients in delivering much-needed housing and regeneration.”

Andy Wilson, partner and national head of residential development at Gateley Legal, added: “It’s brilliant to have Jack onboard as we continue to invest in the growth of our Midlands offering through the recruitment of exceptional talent. He brings a wealth of experience, and his appointment will add strength and depth not only to our West Midlands team but also to our offering across the East Midlands.”

Gateley Legal acts for 18 of the top 20 housebuilders in the UK, on either a regional or national scale, and handles approximately £2.5bn worth of residential plot sales per year. It is one of the few legal businesses in the country with a separate housebuilder team specialising in services for residential developers, operating from offices in Birmingham, Guildford, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Nottingham and Reading.
