Law firms have increased their commitment to pro bono work despite the recession. Some 93 law firms in England and Wales have joined or rejoined the charity, LawWorks, which provides training and case brokerage services for pro bono work to law firms. The charity helps 40,000 people each year. Chief executive Rebecca Hilsenrath, says: “Each year law firms provide thousands of hours of free legal services providing advice and assistance through advice clinics and casework.”
