Judicial review claims rose 42% to 1,300 claims in the second quarter, their highest level since 2015, according to the latest Ministry of Justice statistics, published last week
Of these claims, a record 890 were civil (other) while 400 were immigration and asylum and 38 were criminal.
Law Society president Mark Evans said: ‘The increase has largely been driven by a sharp rise in some types of civil cases. These are cases about education, housing and homelessness: areas that have a direct impact on our daily lives and access to essential services.’
