Firm appoints new head of commercial litigation

Laurence Weeks has been appointed head of commercial litigation at Birketts.

Laurence, who joined Birketts in 2012, specialises in the resolution of complex disputes and has acted for a wide range of clients on a domestic and international basis. He has particular experience in dealing with claims relating to contractual interpretation, professional negligence, corporate, banking and insolvency matters. As well as taking on this new position he will also continue to lead the firm’s restructuring and insolvency team.

Laurence is based in Cambridge but leads a team across Birketts’ four offices: Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Norwich.

Laurence says: “The litigation and dispute resolution team is routinely ranked in the top tier by the legal directories, Legal 500 and Chambers. Indeed, Birketts has more ranked contentious lawyers than any other firm in East Anglia and our lawyers regularly conduct litigation in the High Court and the Court of Appeal as well as engaging in commercial arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.”

Jonathan Agar, CEO at Birketts, adds: “Laurence enjoys a fine reputation in the market and is noted for his strengths in insolvency litigation and dispute resolution. As well as being recognised as a leading practitioner in his field in East Anglia he is a Fellow and National Council Member of r3 – the Association of Business Recovery Professionals. I have no doubt that under his leadership Birketts’ litigation and dispute resolution team will continue to thrive.”
