Firm appoints leading cannabis regulation expert as director

Solicitor Ricardo Geada has joined leading corporate and commercial law firm Lawrence Stephens as Director of its new Regulatory Solutions department, with a focus on the cannabis and cryptoassets sectors.

With over 16 years’ legal experience, both in private practice and in house, Ricardo is a leading expert in cannabis regulation and is regularly instructed by global cannabis companies, handling their legal and strategic requirements in the UK and abroad. His expertise in the sector has led him to become one of the UK’s leading experts in cannabis and cannabinoid regulation, having worked as a contributing editor on the Chambers & Partners Global Practice Guide: Medical Cannabis & Cannabinoid Regulation for 2 years.

Ricardo was recently invited to join the Cannabis Industry Council’s executive committee to assist in developing a more comprehensive outlook on the challenges and solutions facing the cannabis industry.

Ricardo’s appointment to Lawrence Stephens establishes the new Regulatory Solutions department, which provides legal advice and services to sectors ranging from cannabis to cryptocurrency, and marks an exciting new chapter for the firm.

Ricardo spent his first day as Head of Lawrence Stephens’ Regulatory Solutions department at Cannabis Europa 2023, one of Europe’s leading conferences on the development and regulation of medicinal cannabis and CBD products. He met with a broad range of experts and professionals from this rapidly expanding industry, with the conference providing insight into the regulation and legislation of one of the UK’s most fascinating burgeoning industries.

Ricardo Geada, Director, Regulatory Solutions commented: 'I am delighted to be joining Lawrence Stephens and look forward to working with the firm’s diverse range of departments. My new department will tackle frontier areas of regulation, and I look forward to building relationships with new peers and clients.'

Steven Bernstein, Senior Director and Co-Founder of Lawrence Stephens, said: 'It is a pleasure to welcome Ricardo to the firm. He is an exceptional solicitor working in a unique industry, and we are excited for him and the Regulatory Solutions department to add a new dimension to our expanding firm.'
