Legal New Year’s Honours

David Norgrove among lawyers recognised on this year’s list

David Norgrove, chairman of the 2011 family justice review, has been knighted and several lawyers recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Norgrove chairs both the Family Justice Board and the Low Pay Commission.

Legal professionals in receipt of CBEs include the former senior partner at Allen & Overy Guy Beringer; former Bar Council chairman and deputy High Court judge Tim Dutton; Christopher Stephens, chairman of the Judicial Appointments Commission; and Crown Court, St Albans and deputy circuit judge HH Michael Findlay Baker.

OBEs were awarded to insolvency lawyer, David Ereira, chairman of the Insolvency Service’s Board, who moves from Linklaters to Paul Hastings this month, and Law Society council member Carolyn Kirby, who is acknowledged for services to justice and cancer care. Kirby was the first female president of the Law Society in 2002–03, and is now president of the Mental Health Tribunal for Wales and chairman, Cancer Information Support Services, SW Wales.

Other OBE recipients included Charles Denyer, MVO deputy clerk of the Crown in Chancery, Crown Office, Ministry of Justice; (Betty) Ann Flintham, magistrate and former deputy chief executive of the Magistrates’ Association; and Carolyn Pike, director of legal services at the University of Birmingham.

MBEs went to solicitor Katrina Robinson, head of legal services at Viridian Housing; solicitor Kate O’Rourke, senior counsel at Charles Russell Speechlys and vice president of the UK Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys; Shaun Rayner, magistrate and chairman, Essex Family Panel; and William Turner, head of governance and legal services at Nottingham Trent University.
