Legal Services Board plans for the future

Board seeks views on draft strategy & business plan

The Legal Services Board (LSB) has launched a consultation on its proposed ten-year strategy for the legal services sector.

The proposals set out by the LSB reflect the challenges outlined by its State of Legal Services 2020 report, published last month. The report examined the last ten years for the sector and highlighted the key challenges facing it, which have been incorporated into the LSB’s proposed strategy going forward. Among the nine priority areas of focus is the need to dismantle barriers to diversity and inclusion in the profession; close gaps in consumer protection; and lower the levels of unmet legal need across significant parts of society.

In addition to consulting on its draft strategy, the LSB is also asking for views on its proposed business plan for 2021-22. The consultation will close on 5 February 2021.

Dr Helen Phillips, LSB chair, said: ‘This draft strategy reflects the challenges outlined in our recently published State of Legal Services 2020 report and is the culmination of many conversations and extensive research. It is also informed by feedback from members of the public and is focused on ensuring the market works better for consumers and businesses.’
