Lexis®Library update: According to the report, the CCRC received applications from inmates in 82% of English, Welsh and Northern Irish prisons, with 64% of applications coming from serving prisoners, 22% of applicants reported having a disability, 24.4% identified as an ethnic minority. There was also a rise in applications from women from 5.6% to 6.8% and those aged under 21 from 1.8% to 2.8%.
It was also reported that 1,198 applications were received in the last year and that 84.2% of cases investigated by the CCRC were completed within 12 months, with a further 605 applications still under review. The report has also outlined the CCRC’s overhaul of its IT systems and processes to make it easier for people to apply for a free review of criminal convictions and includes case studies on a number of notable cases, including the quashing of 47 convictions against Post Office workers.
