LNB news: MoJ announces statutory review of JSA 2013

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced a statutory review of sections 6–11 of the Justice and Security Act 2013 (JSA 2013) on closed material procedures (CMP).
Lexis®Library update: The reviewer, Sir Duncan Ouseley, will examine a variety of data and evidence with a view to report back in summer 2021, which will be then laid before Parliament. Ouseley is seeking comments and evidence to consider for the report, deadlines for all submissions is 26 May 2021.

The call for evidence covers four main themes, including:

  • the aims of CMP under the JSA 2013
  • how the CMP has operated in practice under the JSA 2013
  • how CMP has measured up against its original objectives under the JSA 2013
  • whether changes to the procedure or language in the JSA 2013 are recommended to help improve the process
The call for evidence can be found here.

The reviewer can be emailed.

Terms of reference for the review of the closed material procedure provisions can be found here.
