LNB NEWS: The Law Society produces third edition of blockchain report

The Law Society has published the third edition of its blockchain report, in collaboration with the Tech London Advocates (TLA) Blockchain Legal and Regulatory Group, and the Society for Computers and Law (SCL).

Lexis®Library update: It concerns Distributed ledger technology (DLT), the best known of which is blockchain, and its key issues for legal practitioners. The report identifies the uses of DLTs and goes on to analyse its impact on the legal landscape.

The report is divided into two parts:

• part one: developing technologies—addresses the growing types and uses of DLTs and specifically cryptoassets including how DLTs work, public and private blockchains, types of cryptoassets and tokens including NFTs, and social tokens

• part two: impacts on the wider landscape—covers how DLT is changing the way services including law is practiced and implications for areas of litigation including but not limited to, smart contracts, family law and dispute resolution
