RPC hires leading regulatory counsel

RPC, named Law Firm of the Year at the Halsbury Legal Awards 2014, has hired leading regulatory counsel Marcus Bonnell from PricewaterhouseCoopers

Marcus joins RPC's regulatory group as counsel. Before joining RPC, Marcus worked in PwC's financial services regulatory practice on a range of prudential and conduct issues, including "skilled persons" investigations, redress programmes and reviewing the adequacy of systems and controls.

Prior to PwC, Marcus was a legal adviser to the Financial Services Authority. As a qualified (criminal) barrister, he advised on prosecutions for insider dealing and worked with the supervision and authorisation divisions on contentious matters, including rejections of authorisation applications. Marcus started his career at the Bar and then worked as a trial advocate for a white collar crime firm.

Richard Burger, partner at RPC, says: “We’re thrilled to have found someone with Marcus’ pedigree. He has some tremendous experience having worked as both a barrister and for the financial services regulator, so he’s well placed to advise our clients on the cutting edge regulatory and legal matters that will affect their businesses.”

Marcus adds: “I’m delighted to be joining RPC’s team of highly experienced and well regarded practitioners. There’s a real buzz about the regulatory team’s and RPC’s innovative approach and growing ambition. I’m very much looking forward to becoming a part of it.”
