Privacy & libel specialist who represented phone-hacking victims joins firm
Seddons today announces that renowned libel and defamation lawyer Mark Lewis has joined the firm as a partner. He joins from Taylor Hampton.
Mark—who brings over 25 years of experience in libel, privacy, confidentiality, reputation management and intellectual property matters—is best known for his ground-breaking work on behalf of clients involved in the recent phone hacking scandals, including his representation of the Dowler family against News International. Since bringing the very first case against the company in 2007, he has represented over 120 victims of phone hacking and secured a number of record-breaking settlements. He also intends to bring forward a number of claims related to the controversies surrounding undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood, also known as the "Fake Sheikh".
Mark also has significant experience in complex scientific libels, including a high-profile defence of Dr Peter Wilmshurst, as well as wider intellectual property cases and the protection of image rights. Further, he advises a number of clients regarding innovative approaches to commercial disputes and other commercial litigation issues.
Managing partner Simon Ross says: “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Mark Lewis to the team. Mark’s reputation as a formidable lawyer in the areas of defamation and libel defence is absolutely second-to-none. His market-leading expertise truly represents an important and highly valuable new resource for our clients, bringing to bear more than 25 years of experience representing individuals and organisations of all sorts against libel and defamation claims and press intrusion, among other issues.”
