Top business award granted for contribution to expert witness profession

Independent expert witness Trevor Gilbert OBE, chair and CEO of Ipswich-based Trevor Gilbert & Associates (TGA), has been recognised in the prestigious Top 100 Influential People in the UK 2023 list as an outstanding national business leader in his profession.

He was given the award for ‘professionalising and improving the reputation of the expert witness profession’ and he is the only expert witness to have received such an award.

On winning his award Trevor said: 'It is wonderful to be recognised for the contribution I have made to the expert witness industry over decades and for introducing continuous professional training and raising professional standards.'

Operating since 1989, TGA is commissioned by law firms acting on behalf of a claimant or defendant to produce loss of earning reports. Since inception, TGA has provided loss of income reports for more than 5,000 cases, producing an estimated total compensation 2 awards of more than £1.75 billion. Recently, Trevor was the lead expert witness in the largest personal injury case in British legal history pleaded at £230 million.

Over the past few decades Trevor has strived to operate to the highest of professional standards and improve the reputation of the expert witness industry. In senior roles held with industry body the Academy of Experts, he introduced continuous professional development, he runs free masterclasses for clients and potential clients to explain how expert witnesses operate and he provides court room training through his business Witness Box.

As a testament to his professionalism, Trevor is a fellow of the Academy of Experts, of which there are only 80 in the world. He is also the only expert witness to be accepted for membership of the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers, recognising his empathy and depth of knowledge in this sensitive area. Trevor was also voted Expert Witness of the Year in the Lawyer International Legal 100 list in 2022 and 2021.

TGA is a micro, family business that employs Trevor’s wife, son, an accounts specialist and six associates who produce loss of earnings reports.
