Retired senior costs judge joins advisory board
Newlands Horizons (UK) limited have announced that Peter Hurst, retired senior costs judge of England and Wales, is to join Newlands on their advisory board. The advisory board was set up to contain experts and thought leaders. Peter, who now practises as mediator and arbitrator at 39 Essex Chambers, is one of the most knowledgeable people in the country on litigation costs and will be an invaluable asset to Newlands in shaping their costs management solution.
Peter was admitted as solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1967. He was appointed to sit as a senior costs judge of England and Wales (formerly chief master of the Supreme Court Taxing Office) in 1992, prior to this he was a taxing master from 1981 to 1992. He was appointed as an assistant recorder in 1997 and a recorder and deputy district judge of the Principal Registry of the Family Division in 2000. He was a judicial taxing officer of the House of Lords from 2002 to 2009, judicial taxing officer of the UK Supreme Court from 2009 to 2014, and judicial taxing officer of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council from 2002 to 2014. He became an honorary bencher of Gray’s Inn in 2007. Among other areas he is very much involved in the increasing requirement for quality mediation.
