Privatise the Land Registry?

Proposals to privatise the Land Registry have progressed to the consultation stage. The Department for Business, Innovations & Skills (BIS) has launched a public consultation on privatisation, Consultation on moving Land Registry operations to the private sector, due to end on 26 May. The proposal was announced by the chancellor in the Autumn Statement 2015 and the recent Budget. Options include retaining government ownership of the registers, with the customer fee set by the secretary of state and defined conditions set for any government intervention.
