The Ministry of Justice has closed down its 200th rogue claims management firm since launching its claims management regulation unit in 2007.
The unit targets unscrupulous companies which offer to help people with personal injury claims and debts but put their money at risk in the process.
The unit is currently working to combat unwanted cold calling, unfair upfront fees and “cash for crash” frauds. Kevin Rousell, unit head, said some firms “mislead people or carry out various kinds of malpractice, deliberately or otherwise”.
