Royds Withy King—Joanna Toloczko

Family law specialist joins the team

Family law and mediation specialist Joanna Toloczko has joined the London office of Royds Withy King.

Joanna has been appointed as a partner and joins from Meaby & Co. She has over 30 years’ experience in leading law firms in London and Essex. This latest appointment underlines Royds Withy King’s commitment to further growing its profile in London.

Joanna covers all aspects of family law, including divorce and dissolution of civil partnerships; family agreements including prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, separation agreements and cohabitation agreements; family mediation; financial remedies within divorce proceedings; private children law and property and financial claims for cohabiting partners.

Joanna said: ‘I am really excited to be joining a great team in such a well-regarded law firm. I have a particular interest in complex and high value financial remedy applications within divorce proceedings, such as cases involving business assets, property portfolios or trusts. I also have a passion for helping separating couples to resolve disputes using family mediation and thereby avoid the stress, expense and delay of court proceedings. As an accredited family mediator, I’ll be able to help couples seeking mediation from any of our offices, given that mediation sessions will now be taking place remotely.

‘Many of my clients are feeling completely overwhelmed when we first meet. I love working through their problems with them in a structured way and helping them to gain the clarity they need to move forward with confidence. I am also looking forward to meeting my new colleagues, albeit only virtually for now.’

Royds Withy King head of family Richard Ellis said: ‘Joanna is an excellent addition to our Family team and brings with her a wealth of experience. She will be a tremendous asset for us in supporting our clients.’

Joanna’s arrival brings the number of new partner hires at Royds Withy King to eight in the past year.

Timing is everything—and the Court of Appeal has delivered clarity on when proceedings are ‘brought’. In his latest 'Civil way' column for NLJ, Stephen Gold explains that a claim is issued for limitation purposes when the claim form is delivered to the court, even if fees are underpaid
The traditional ‘single, intensive day’ of financial dispute resolution (FDR) may be due for a rethink. Writing in NLJ this week, Rachel Frost-Smith and Lauren Guiler of Birketts propose a ‘split FDR’ model, separating judicial evaluation from negotiation
