Simpson Millar

Four new appointments boost medical negligence team

Nick BanksJames Thompson, Aftar Waris and Lindsay Clark have been appointed to Simpson Millar's medical negligence team.

Nick Banks, who has worked in medical negligence throughout his career, has joined Simpson Millar in Liverpool from Fletchers Solicitors in Merseyside. Before then he worked as a trainee solicitor for Goodmans Law in Liverpool.

James Thompson has joined Simpson Millar as an associate from Irwin Mitchell where he worked for nearly four years—having spent three years beforehand with Ison Harrison’s clinical negligence team. He is an APIL accredited senior litigator and his area of expertise is in complex and technical cases of high value.

Aftar Waris, previously of Pryers solicitors in York and Irwin Mitchell in Leeds, has joined as an associate solicitor—bringing three years dedicated medical negligence experience to the firm along with four years professional negligence experience dealing with cases against solicitors and barristers, arising from badly handled medical negligence and personal injury cases.  Aftar is a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers’ Association.

Solicitor Lindsay Clark has also joined the team. Before starting at Simpson Millar, Lindsay spent nearly three years with a clinical negligence firm based in York, which she joined after completing her training contract at another Leeds-based firm.

Neil Fearn, head of medical negligence at Simpson Millar says: “I am delighted to see our team grow from strength to strength; Simpson Millar remains a place that people really want to work.

“The firm has always offered great career prospects but I think the real attraction is the fact that client care is, and has always been, a priority. In cases involving complex medical issues where individuals have been left with long-terms scars from neglectful care or treatment, nothing is more important than making sure full and thorough investigations are carried out so that we can put forward a strong case for compensation.”
