New Chair of the BSB announced for 2015
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has announced that Sir Andrew Burns KCMG has been appointed as the new Chair of the BSB with effect from 1 January 2015. He will succeed Baroness Ruth Deech QC (Hon) whose maximum possible six year term of office as Chair will finish at the end of 2014. He is due to serve for an initial term of three years.
Sir Andrew brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from his career in the diplomatic service, and education, finance, and cultural sectors.
Baroness Deech says: “These past six years as Chair of the BSB have been exciting, challenging, and rewarding. There has never been a dull moment throughout my tenure, and I shall look back on this period with great pride. I look forward to working with Sir Andrew—whose career I hold in the highest regard—over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.”
Sir Andrew says: “I am very excited at the prospect of leading the BSB through the next stage of its journey to becoming a more modern and efficient regulator. I am committed to working with the Bar to help it modernise and flourish in the face of change, while maintaining quality standards and safeguarding the client.”
