Public family law cases are taking two weeks less to complete than they did last year, according to the family court statistics quarterly: January to March 2026, published last week
Law Society vice president Brett Dixon welcomed the ‘timelier resolution in public cases’.
However, he noted that in almost half (49%) of private family law cases, neither party had legal support despite the fact ‘these cases regularly handle domestic abuse allegations... we continue to campaign to secure the future of family legal aid to ensure that domestic abuse victims and their children are protected.’
