ICO advise that clear policy on new technology is a necessity

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has advised employers to make sure they have a clear policy about smart phones and tablets at work. It has set out five recommendations, including ensuring that devices are secure, data transfer is secure, employees retain control of the devices, and that “end of contract” and “acceptable use” policies are in place. Last year, the Royal Veterinary College received a warning from the ICO after an employee lost a camera with photos of six applicants on it.
