The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has announced the appointment of two members to the board, Selina Ullah and Peter Higson.
Selina is a highly experienced non-executive director, who has spent seven years as a board member of the General Optical Council and three years with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She is also the director of the Muslim Women’s Council, and senior adviser to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
Peter is the chair of Welsh non-profit Cartrefi Cymru which supports people with learning disabilities; he was also chair of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health board in North Wales, a lay member of the Wales Committee of the Law Society, and Mental Health Act Commissioner. He spent the first 25 years of his career as a psychologist and then a manager with the NHS.
Anna Bradley, chair of the SRA board, said: ‘I am delighted that after an open and competitive recruitment process, Selina and Peter are joining us. They both bring a wide range of experience and expertise to our board.
‘We look forward to working with them as we deliver our reforms, maintaining high professional standards and public protection while removing constraints on the provision of accessible, affordable legal services.’
