Stewarts—Matthew Greene

London team welcomes tax litigation partner

Stewarts welcomes new partner Matthew Greene to the tax litigation and resolution department in London.

Matthew has over 15 years’ experience in resolving complex tax disputes for corporate and high net worth individual clients. He specialises in resolving high value, complex tax disputes through negotiation, ADR and litigation before the Tax Tribunal and appellate Courts with a particular emphasis on direct tax disputes.

Before joining Stewarts in 2023, Matthew was at Osborne Clarke where he helped to establish their tax disputes team. He also has experience at RPC and PwC Legal (where he worked with David Pickstone). Matthew started his career in the City with a background in economics before moving into a career in law.

David Pickstone, Head of Tax Litigation and Resolution, commented: 'We are delighted to welcome Matthew to the firm. Matthew will add depth to the department’s existing expertise and brings with him a wealth of experience in resolving disputes with HMRC.'

Matthew commented: 'In my experience, clients are looking for strategic advice on the best approach to resolving a dispute, in a way that takes full account of their commercial priorities. With an innovative approach to funding and expertise in resolving complex disputes, Stewarts is an ideal home for me to continue to service clients in this way.'

Matthew’s arrival brings the number of partners at Stewarts to 84, including four partners and one director in the tax litigation and resolution department.
