Leading
South East law firm Thackray Williams has bolstered its employment law team
with the arrival of dual UK-US qualified attorney and solicitor Alexandra
Hubbard.
With
particular experience in supporting employers in creating compliant, productive
cultures and litigation claims, her appointment enables Thackray Williams to
better understand the wider employment considerations faced by international
companies.
“Many of our
corporate clients have offices in the US and therefore have to be compliant
with both English and American employment law. Having Alexandra on board means
we have a broader perspective on the employment issues that can arise for
organisations with an international footprint, helping us ask the right
questions, spot potential cross-border considerations early and work with
clients to shape practical, commercially focused solutions,” comments Emma
Thompson, Co-Managing Partner and Head of Employment and Education.
“I’m excited
to join Thackray Williams – it’s a great team with a fantastic culture and an
interesting mix of clients,” says Alexandra. “I’m looking forward to making a
positive difference for business owners and managers by helping them create
positive, attractive cultures.”
After
graduating with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law,
Alexandra spent six years practicing law in the Mid-West, representing both
individuals and businesses throughout a varied practice. While working as an
employment attorney in the United States, she worked with a range of companies
and not-for-profit organisations, helping them with all aspects of employment
law from advising on day-to-day managerial questions to dealing with
litigation.
In 2024 she
left the US to undertake an LLM at Durham University, again graduating with
distinction. In July she was officially admitted to the roll of solicitors of
England and Wales, enabling her to practise both here and in Nebraska.
“I love
England and knew that I wanted to live and work here. I’ve lived in London in
the past while studying,” she recalls. “I think London is one of the best
cities in the world, but you still have access to the sea and the countryside,
and I enjoy the easy access to traveling in the UK and mainland Europe.”
“I even like
the weather! English people are always surprised when I say that, but Nebraska
has real extremes, so I appreciate the milder climate.”
“Employment
law is the fastest growing sector within Thackray Williams so it’s great that
Alexandra has chosen to build her career in the UK with us,” says Emma
Thompson. “We have a deserved and growing reputation for legal expertise to
rival that of the big City law firms but without the eye-watering fees,
combined with robust pragmatism, solution-orientated thinking and exemplary
customer service.
“Add into that
our areas of niche expertise, such as education and neurodiversity, and we are
attracting increasing instructions from both individuals and organisations –
from SMEs to schools and large multinationals – meaning both more work and more
complex work.”
