New director for flagship centre in Leeds
The University of Law (ULaw) has appointed Tom Macdonald as the director of the University’s new flagship centre in Leeds, which will open to students this September. Tom joins from Leeds Metropolitan University where he was head of the Leeds Law School.
A former student of ULaw, Tom has more than 10 years’ experience in legal education, having started his career as a criminal law barrister and then moving into senior management roles in education. He brings strong leadership and a substantial track record of developing commercial partnerships along with a passion for teaching.
Prior to Leeds Metropolitan University, Tom held senior positions at BPP University College and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He was appointed dean of the School of Law, The Hon. Society of King’s Inns, Dublin at 33 years old.

I’m looking forward to supporting all our students on their educational journeys and promoting our work in the region. Having been based in Leeds since 2012, I know that the city is an incredibly vibrant commercial centre and a great place to study.
“Leeds and the surrounding region is currently under-served in terms of legal education and our new centre will offer a dynamic and modern learning space, which mirrors the future working environment of our students.”
