Stringent rules designed to reduce land registration fraud have been approved. The Land Registration (Amendment) Rules 2008 (SI 2008/1919), due to come into force on 1 November, amend the 2003 rules to allow the use of “statements of truth” as an alternative to statutory declarations. The Land Registry says that, despite making changes to all forms prescribed under the 2003 rules, many will remain in use during a transitional period until 10 February 2009.
