10,000 Steps for Justice

For those of us cooped up indoors during COVID-19, the idea of a 10km walk through central London in the sunshine may seem like an impossible dream

However, the annual London Legal Walk, which is sponsored by LexisNexis UK, has been postponed not cancelled, and is scheduled to go ahead on Monday, 5 October. Last year, 15,000 lawyers and legal professionals took part, raising a record-breaking £890,000 for law centres, advice agencies and Citizens Advice Bureau in London and the South East.

On 8 June―the original date for the Walk―London Legal Support Trust (LLST), which organises the event, will instead be holding a ‘10,000 Steps for Justice’ event. Given the current coronavirus crisis, it will be a virtual event, with participants completing their steps in the comfort of their living room, local park or garden. Videos and photos can be uploaded onto social media using the hashtag #10kstepsforjustice.

Those organisations who have already signed up for the London Legal Walk can use their fundraising page for this event.

According to the LLST, there will be a significant rise in emergency funding applications from advice agencies as they deal with the debt problems, housing issues, elderly care needs and employment issues that are likely to be part of the fallout from COVID-19.
