High-profile barrister Martin Hayden SC (Special Counsel) has joined 36 Civil

Martin’s practice focuses on Commercial Law, Aviation, Banking, Tax and Competition. He began practicing in 1987, at the Irish Bar and subsequently went to the Inner Irish Bar in 2001. He was called to the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 2014.

For the past 20 years, Martin has been involved in extensive, high profile commercial litigation cases, and has appeared regularly in the Superior Courts of Ireland and the European Court of Justice.

He has taken on major inquiries, appearing for Ryanair’s challenge to the construction of Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport, the Mahon Tribunal, the Blood Tribunal and is acting now on behalf of Ryanair in judicial review proceedings in relation to the new Northern Runway Development.

Martin’s expertise and specialist knowledge of e-contracts enables him to act regularly for the largest airline in Europe, and one of the largest banks in Ireland.

During his career, he has acted in a number of successful competition and public procurement cases, such as Nurendale Limited t/a Panda Waste Services v Dublin City Council, which resulted in the rendering void of the entire Dublin Waste Management Plan, which led to the cessation of the development of a €650m waste incinerator plant.

Martin regularly acts in aviation law cases, in relation to the operation of Dublin airport. His work on behalf of international corporations has helped to successfully challenge legislative intervention to impose mandatory Trade Union recognition in employment negotiations.

His intellectual property practice includes work on behalf of a major airline which is challenging Google’s entitlement to use and operate its Adwords platform on the basis that it amounts to a breach of the target company’s intellectual property.
