Senior Law Lecturer appointed to Human Rights Committee

Angela Jackman, a partner in Simpson Millar’s Education and Community Care team and Senior Lecturer at The City Law school has been appointed to the Law Society’s Human Rights Committee.

The appointment takes effect from today, on 1 September 2016.

The Law Society Human Rights Committee works to see human rights and the rule of law upheld both domestically and internationally and is, amongst other things, tasked with responding to relevant government consultations and presenting the views of members and the Council.

About her appointment Angela says: “I am passionate about promoting the core principles of human rights laws, and interested in the way they are interpreted and applied both in the UK and abroad. Human Rights is a founding principle of our society – reaching into so many areas of life where opportunities or protections are needed.

“In many countries, life as a human rights lawyer is fraught with danger and it is vital that practitioners there receive support from established legal bodies in countries such as the UK. I look forward to the difference I might be able to make as part of the Human Rights Committee, and to working with such an esteemed group of people.”

In addition to her role as a public law solicitor, Angela is a Senior Lecturer and CPD Consultant at City University London – covering topics such as the Mental Capacity Act, protection of vulnerable adults and deprivation of liberty.
