The government’s recent decision to reconsider asylum applications from lone child refugees with family links to the UK has been welcomed by the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC). A ministerial statement on 8 February revealed the government schemes under the Dubs Amendment and Dublin III Regulation would soon end. Following a public outcry, the government is now rethinking this. BHRC chairperson Kirsty Brimelow QC welcomed the rethink but urged the government to go further and reconsider the plight of lone children who fall outside Dublin III.
