Offshore disputes expert joins Jersey firm

Dispute resolution firm Baker & Partners has announced the arrival of James Corbett QC as senior counsel. His move represents only a handful of English QCs who have joined a firm based in Jersey.

James is a cross-border litigation specialist who focuses on disputes involving the financial services and technology sectors, and he also offers expertise in international trusts, insolvency, and commercial disputes in offshore jurisdictions. He joins Baker & Partners from London firm Kobre & Kim; between 2012 and 2014 he headed the firm’s Cayman office, and he was also previously a member of Serle Court in Lincoln’s Inn. He is admitted on either a permanent or pro hac basis in a total of 11 international and offshore jurisdictions, including the British Virgin and Cayman Islands.

James commented: ‘Over the course of my career, I have long enjoyed the challenge of Jersey-sourced work as part of my international offshore disputes practice. I’m pleased to be joining Baker & Partners at such an exciting time for the firm, as it builds on its reputation as a leading offshore disputes firm based in Jersey. I look forward to bringing to bear my experience across multiple international offshore jurisdictions to help support the firm’s continued ascent as a major global offshore player.’

Senior partner at Baker & Partners Stephen Baker added: ‘The addition of such a renowned English QC is a real coup for Baker & Partners, and we are delighted to welcome him to the team. James’ expertise and decades of experience working on major complex offshore disputes in jurisdictions around the world is second to none. His hire represents a major expansion of our international reach and capability, as we continue to emerge as a major player in offshore disputes and litigation in Jersey and worldwide.’
