Distress and disillusionment are on the rise in the legal profession, according to recent studies in the US, Australia and Canada. Here in the UK, Bar professional bodies recently undertook their own research, revealing high levels of anxiety, stress and “unhealthy” perfectionism. Despite this, psychological wellbeing remains a little-discussed subject at the Bar, says Rachel Spearing, chair of the Bar Council’s Wellbeing at the Bar Programme, in NLJ this week.
