Bird & Bird—Emma Radcliffe

London competition team expands with collective actions specialist hire

Bird & Bird has expanded its London competition law team with the appointment of Emma Radcliffe as a partner. The hire strengthens the firm’s capability in competition collective damages claims and reflects the continued strategic growth of its London competition practice.

Radcliffe specialises in defending competition collective actions before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, as well as related appeals to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. She has successfully opposed certification in several recent landmark cases and also advises on complex, multi-jurisdictional competition and regulatory investigations across sectors including music, technology and communications, betting and gaming, and financial services.

She will work closely with the firm’s international dispute resolution team, enhancing Bird & Bird’s litigation strength in mass claims. Phil Sherrell, head of Bird & Bird London, said collective actions are ‘now a major feature of competition enforcement in the UK’ and that Radcliffe’s arrival will ‘enhance our ability to support clients facing these complex and high-value proceedings’.

Peter Willis and Saskia King, partners in the London competition law team, described Radcliffe as ‘a leading competition litigator’, while Radcliffe said she was ‘delighted to be joining Bird & Bird at a time when competition litigation, particularly collective actions, is increasing across sectors’.
