Birketts—Andrew Kinnison

Partner joins litigation and dispute resolution team

Birketts’ litigation and dispute resolution team has received a huge boost with the appointment of new partner, Andrew Kinnison.

Andrew has a proven track record and exceptional list of cases on which he has acted as an advocate for international businesses and high net-worth individuals. He has previously been a partner at three other law firms including an international City law firm based in Hong Kong and has spent four years as a barrister at the Chancery Bar in London. Working closely with his clients to achieve the best and always offering the most cost-effective solution to any case, Andrew is an expert in commercial disputes, contract disputes (including shareholder disputes), insolvency, professional negligence and cross-border disputes. Always keen to encourage clients to avoid disputes, he is also skilled in mediation, adjudication and arbitration.

Birketts’ litigation and dispute resolution team is ranked as top-tier in both Legal 500 and Chambers 2021 rankings. The team has some of Birketts’ sharpest minds and more than a dozen partners and expertise across property, corporate, regulatory, agriculture and shipping sectors. Lawyers routinely conduct litigation in the High Court and the Court of Appeal, typically with major London and international law firms as opponents, as well as engaging in commercial arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Their strong links with proven junior and leading counsel in leading London commercial chambers make them a crucial asset in legal disputes for large businesses and high net-worth individuals.

Speaking after the appointment, Andrew said: 'I am excited to work with Birketts’ clients and my new colleagues in the litigation division. Birketts has some incredibly talented lawyers and I look forward to collaborating with teams across the firm. Litigation is a challenging field and, while we will as a team work with clients to avoid disputes proactively, I am confident in the skills and expertise of the team to swiftly bring about a positive solution at a fair and sensible cost. Many thanks to Jonathan, Laurence and the firm as a whole for their warm welcome.'

Laurence Weeks, lead partner in Birketts’ dispute resolution team, said: 'It is my pleasure to welcome Andrew to both Birketts and the Litigation division. I expect Andrew’s experience and expertise to make an immediate impact.  He is a formidable asset and our team of more than 50 litigation lawyers have an excellent new colleague in Andrew, making us even better placed to provide excellent support to our clients.'

Andrew will be based at the firm's Norwich office and working with colleagues across the Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich and London offices.
