IP partner joins team in Bristol to lead branding and trade marks practice

Birketts has appointed Michael Conway as partner in its intellectual property team, where he will lead the firm’s branding and trade marks practice. He is the first IP specialist to join the firm’s Bristol office and the ninth new partner to be appointed there since it opened at the end of 2024.

Conway is a chartered trade mark attorney with nearly 20 years’ experience, advising businesses from SMEs to multinationals across sectors including luxury watches, enterprise software and steam engineering. His work spans UK, European and international trade mark matters, from brand clearance and registration to disputes before the UK Intellectual Property Office and other global registries.

Maria Peyman, partner and head of intellectual property at Birketts, said she was ‘delighted to welcome Michael to our intellectual property team’, adding that his arrival ‘adds even more depth and breadth to our practice’ and will support clients in Bristol and beyond.

Conway said he was ‘drawn to the firm for its growth mindset’ and ‘the clear momentum behind both the IP team and the Bristol office’, adding that he was excited to work with colleagues to ‘drive the continued growth of the branding and trade marks practice’.
