Breaking new ground

His Honour Judge Peter Thornton QC took up his post as the first Chief Coroner of England and Wales this month.

The Lord Chief Justice made the appointment under the provisions of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 having consulted with the Lord Chancellor. Judge Thornton is a Senior Circuit Judge at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey).
