Burges Salmon—Gary Delderfield & Alec Bennett

Partner and senior associate join pensions team

Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has expanded its pensions and lifetime savings practice with the appointment of Gary Delderfield as partner and Alec Bennett as senior associate. Both join from Eversheds Sutherland, where Gary (pictured) led the public sector pensions group and Alec was a key member of that team. The pair bring extensive experience advising funds, trustees and employers across public and private sectors, including central government, education, local government, the NHS and charities.

Richard Knight, partner and head of pensions and lifetime savings at Burges Salmon, said the hires show the firm’s ‘commitment to providing clients with unparalleled expertise’. He added that with upcoming reforms to Local Government Pension Schemes, clients face ‘a pivotal period of change and complexity’ and that strengthening the team will help the firm ‘respond dynamically to the evolving needs of our clients’.

Gary Delderfield said he and Alec were ‘thrilled to join Burges Salmon’, praising its ‘collaborative, supportive culture’ and ‘excellent expertise in pensions law’. He added that the evolving legal landscape presents ‘a real opportunity to help clients navigate the complexities with confidence’.

The appointments follow a period of rapid growth for Burges Salmon’s pensions team, which has increased in size by 46% over the past year. Recent hires include pensions director Michael Dando and partners Steven Hull and Chris Brown. The firm remains highly regarded for advising on complex, high-profile pension matters and continues to invest in innovative client tools such as its ESG Pensions Toolkit and UK Pensions for International Companies Triage Tool.
