Firm expands tech & commercial capabilities with senior hire

Burges Salmon has strengthened its technology sector group with the appointment of senior lawyer Madelin Sinclair McAusland.

With 14 years of experience spent both in private practice at A&O Shearman, and in-house at Virgin Management, Madelin is a commercial lawyer and a media and communications law specialist, advising household and consumer brands on complex commercial, technology, data protection and IP issues.

Madelin will be working with many of the firm’s clients, from multinational companies through to high-growth emerging businesses, and supporting them on pioneering and transformational transactions to bring new products to market. She will advise on the deployment, and real-world market application, of new technologies, and guide clients through large-scale digital transformation projects.

Madelin said: ‘I am delighted to join Burges Salmon’s highly regarded commercial and technology team and to be working with such an impressive and dynamic client portfolio. With seven years’ experience as an in-house lawyer for Virgin, I am excited to be returning to private practice and to be working alongside such seasoned legal experts as part of a values-based business that is set up for continued growth.’

David Varney, partner in the technology team, added: ‘We’re thrilled to welcome a lawyer of Madelin’s experience and calibre into our fast-growing technology practice. Her impressive track record, alongside her specialisms in data protection, technology, media and communications, complement our team perfectly and her experience enhances many of our existing service lines to meet the needs of our clients as they continue to innovate and grow.’
