Celebrating stars of pro bono

LawWorks’ virtual ceremony recognises ‘dedication & commitment’ of pro bono winners

The solicitors’ pro bono group LawWorks paid tribute this week to this year’s winners at the Annual Pro Bono Awards 2020, sponsored by LexisNexis. The live virtual event was hosted by Matt Stadlen and Christina Blacklaws (pictured), and featured messages from such high-profile names as Clive Stafford-Smith, Carol Storer and Leslie Thomas QC.

Among the winners of the night were Travers Smith, with pro bono director Sam Cottman and associate Raphaella Gabrasadig taking home the awards for best contribution by an individual and the Junior Lawyers Division Pro Bono Award respectively. Reed Smith was recognised as best contribution among large law firms, and South Westminster Legal Advice Centre won for best digital or virtual pro bono activity. Awards were given in 11 categories in total, and further information on all the winners and nominees is available here.

Chair of LawWorks Alasdair Douglas said: ‘Congratulations to the winners and finalists—all deserve recognition and celebration of their work and the difference they make in enabling access justice, especially over the last difficult year. It was also inspiring to see our first ever virtual awards event broadcast live, and my thanks to the production team.’

James Harper, executive sponsor, Rule of Law and CSR for LexisNexis UK & Ireland, said: ‘On behalf of LexisNexis I would like to congratulate the winners, and all those shortlisted and nominated, for their dedication and commitment to enabling access to justice and advancing the Rule of Law. LexisNexis is honoured to have had the chance to express our support for all involved, and to help bring the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards online with potential reach to a wider audience.’
