Firm appoints top IP lawyer
Browne Jacobson has expanded its leading intellectual property practice with the appointment of partner Cerryg Jones.
Cerryg, who will split his time between the firm’s Birmingham and London offices, joins from Gowling WLG. He brings with him over 20 years’ experience in intellectual property infringement matters, litigation, risk management, mediation and dispute resolution in relation to brand and designs. He also has particular expertise in handling matters on trade marks, copyrights, designs, trade secrets and confidential information.
Cerryg has been involved in some very high profile trade mark infringement cases including acting for the owner of the Glee Club comedy and music group owner, Comic Enterprises in its well documented dispute with Twentieth Century Fox over the TV programme Glee, which was found by the High Court and the Court of Appeal to have infringed Comic Enterprises registered trade mark. He was also instructed by Unilever in various intellectual property disputes, including a high profile dispute with the BNP in which he helped secure an interim injunction to prevent the BNP using the iconic Marmite brand in party political broadcasts.
Declan Cushley, partner and head of the firm’s commercial and intellectual property team, said: “Cerryg’s arrival is a real coup for our IP practice. He is considered one of the best brand and IP litigation lawyers in the country and his experience and knowledge will be a real asset to our already thriving team.
“Our specialist IP practice continues to attract some of the best and most ambitious IP talent in the UK and Cerryg is full proof of that.
“His appointment supports our strategic commitment to provide a full suite of IP services from industry leading experts to our regional, national and international client base.”
Cerryg added: “I am very excited to be joining such a reputable firm that has a really strong client portfolio and a place where exceptional client service is at the heart of everything they do.”
