Charles Russell Speechlys—Matthew Griffin

Firm strengthens international funds capability with senior hire

Charles Russell Speechlys has announced the appointment of experienced funds lawyer Matthew Griffin to its international funds and investment management team, marking a significant expansion of the firm’s private capital offering. Griffin (pictured, left) will work closely with Jeremy Bell (right), who joined the firm as a senior consultant in 2024, to build a high-calibre funds platform positioned as an alternative to other leading market players.

Griffin joins from Mayer Brown, where he was head of funds and investment management Europe, and previously served as partner and head of funds and investment management (EMEA) at White & Case. With more than 25 years’ experience advising mid-market sponsors and institutional investors, including sovereign wealth clients, he has acted on complex secondary and co-investment transactions and established funds across multiple asset classes and jurisdictions.

David Collins, partner responsible for the firm’s business advisory and transaction services division, said: ‘Matthew is a heavy hitter in funds and investments, and an exciting addition to the firm’s senior funds bench strength. His experience is a perfect fit for us as we continue to strengthen our capabilities in response to growing client demand for international private capital advice.’

Griffin said: ‘Charles Russell Speechlys is a rock solid mid-market firm with international presence across jurisdictions I know well. Joining Jeremy Bell and the firm’s impressive tax and regulatory teams gives us a real opportunity to provide sponsor and investor clients with a calibre funds offering alternative to the dominant practices. I look forward to helping build a disruptive international funds practice.’
