Firm strengthens children department with adoption and surrogacy expert

Dawson Cornwell LLP has appointed Naomi Angell as a consultant in its children department, joining on 20 April 2026. She brings a distinguished career spanning several decades and is widely recognised as a leading authority in adoption and surrogacy law, both in the UK and internationally.

Angell specialises in intercountry and domestic adoption, as well as international and domestic surrogacy, and children cases with an immigration dimension. She advises a broad range of clients including children, birth parents, intended parents and surrogates, and also acts as an expert witness to local authorities and foreign courts. Alongside her casework, she has played a key role in family law policy and reform, including founding the Children’s Legal Centre in 1981.

She joins the firm with a focus on mentoring and developing junior lawyers, while contributing to its international profile and technical expertise. Managing partner Russell Bywater said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to welcome Naomi... a true pioneer... with a reputation that is second to none.’

Carolina Marín Pedreño, partner and head of the children department, added: ‘Today marks a significant day... a true leader in adoption, surrogacy and fertility law.’ Angell said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Dawson Cornwell... I look forward to working with such a highly regarded team, and to supporting and mentoring lawyers.’
