Debating marriage

Leading matrimonial lawyers have agreed that more needs to be done to update England’s matrimonial laws and bring them in line with contemporary jurisdictions

At the Charles Russell Family Law Debate last week, the discussion looked at whether women were still treated as financially dependent on men and whether couples should be made to sign prenuptial agreements. Marriage rates for England and Wales are currently at their lowest since records began in 1895, with only 231,490 marriages registered in 2009.
