DMG Media has appointed Reinhardt Biermann as head of legal, commercial to lead the company’s team of in-house lawyers.

Reinhardt joins from Slaughter and May, where he was a senior associate in the technology, digital, data and IP practice area.

At Slaughter and May, Reinhardt worked on a number of high-profile transactions, including DMG Media’s joint venture with News UK to combine their print operations. He has been seconded at DMG Media since May of this year.

In his new role, Reinhardt will report jointly to Rich Caccappolo, chief executive officer, DMG Media, and Tim Collier, chief executive officer, DMGT.

Liz Hartley, group editorial legal director, and her team will continue to oversee all editorial legal matters.

Rich Caccappolo said: ‘I am thrilled that Reinhardt is joining us to lead our in-house legal team. He knows print and digital publishing and has learned about our company after advising on the successful transaction with News UK to merge our print operations.

‘He is a shrewd and innovative practitioner, and I have no doubt that Reinhardt will help our organisation to prosper amid significant change in the regulatory, legal and operating backdrop.’

Tim Collier said: ‘Reinhardt has built a trusted relationship with the business both from his work as an external advisor, and from leading the commercial legal department on secondment from Slaughter and May.

‘He has a deep knowledge of the media industry, understands our long-term strategy and is an inspiring leader.’

Commenting on his new role, Reinhardt said: ‘I am delighted to be joining DMG Media and am looking forward to working with its team of brilliant lawyers.

‘I relish the challenge of helping DMG Media to navigate an ever more complex legal landscape.’
